| Tsunami destroyed Galle Maritime Museum is reconstructed |

The first gallery of the National Maritime Museum at Galle will be opened on 25th July 2008 with the participation of the Hon. Minister of Cultural Affairs and the H.E. the Ambassador of Royal Netherlands Government.
Galle Maritime Museum destroyed by the Tsunami in 2004. Under Sri Lanka- Netherlands Cultural Co-operation Program, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs provided financial assistance for reconstruction work of the museum.
The 1st gallery, which will be opened on 25th July is mainly focusing on the varieties of water crafts used in Southern Sri Lanka and the life style of those fishing communities.
The rest of the museum is still under construction and focusing on biological aspects of the coastal and marine ecosystems. This construction will be completed at the end of year 2008.
